About the Charities

Chinese Orphans Assistance Team COAT
The Chinese Orphans Assistance Team (COAT) was founded in 2002 by an Australian couple, Linda and Greg Shum. COAT funds and supports two projects in Henan Province, both aimed at assisting disabled and orphaned Chinese children. These projects are Eagles Wings China, a small group of homes that provide a more family-like environment for children, and, the Xi Wang Le Yuan School, translated as “a place of hope and happiness” for disabled children.

Eagles Wings China
Eagles Wings China was established by COAT in 2006, in response to the need for family-orientated, homely and nurturing environments for orphaned children. Eagle Wings China currently consists of 8 homes, caring for approximately 55 children by 24 home-carers. Eagle Wings aims to help children reach their full potential and equip them with the necessary social and practical skills to become productive adults, through providing education, nutritional meals, medical care and enrichment activities. As like any other family home environment, children are additionally encouraged to do their homework, complete chores, go on outings and play with their household siblings. COAT hopes to provide more homes for children in need and your support would be greatly appreciated!
Xi Wang Le Yuan School
COAT additionally supports the Xi Wang Le Yuan School (“a place of hope and happiness”), which caters for disabled children. It presently educates 79 students across 10 classes, with the support of 20 teachers. The school accommodates children from COAT’s Eagles Wings China’s homes, in addition to children from orphanages, New Hope Foster Home and local children with special needs. Xi Wang Le Yuan School aims to prepare children with the necessary skills for the most independent life as possible, as well as breaking down stigma surrounding disabled children and local perceptions that they’re incapable of learning.

By supporting COAT, you are helping children at Xi Wang Le Yuan School have a more enriched, happy and productive childhood and life.
